BP supervisor acquitted in federal jury trial in New Orleans
DEEPWATER HORIZON DEFENDANT ACQUITTED. Our client Robert Kaluza was found not guilty by a very attentive jury in New Orleans federal court of the last remaining charge against him in connection with the Deepwater Horizon tragedy in which 11 workers died in the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Kaluza was a BP wellsite supervisor who was not on duty at the time of the explosion. Congratulations to my partners (lead counsel) Shaun Clarke, Dane Ball, David Isaak and others at our firm who worked so hard on the case. Our firm, Smyser Kaplan & Veselka, LLP, has represented white-collar criminal defendants for at least a decade, including a former highly-placed executive at KBR, in various U.S. criminal matters, such as charges under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. We congratulate Robert Kaluza, who insisted on his innocence from Day One and demanded his day in court.
