Concerning Truckers and Lawyers!

It is almost impossible to drive along any stretch of motorway in the UK without encountering and Eddie Stobart lorry. They appear to be everywhere. But you would normally associate them with our justice system. Not until now.The Company has a sub division known as Stobart Barristers. They are to offer legal services to the public by offering direct access to barristers in relation to legal disputes. This is something which they are permitted to do under legislation going back to 2004. They say…See More

Virtual Lawyer (2)

I have discussed previously the development of the Virtual Lawyer and how the world is changing at breathless pace.http://thestevecornforthblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/virtual-lawyer.htmlIs surprising that lawyers are reported to be well behind the game, as far as social networking is concerned. "If we are to have more litigants in person in the future then maybe they could include some educational tips in courtroom dramas and televised proceedings? ;-) I always thought Judge Judy missed a trick on that one."

"Hi Steve - I wonder how (or if) televised proceedings will affect the public's opinion about the legal system, and about lawyers in particular.  Would be a good longitudinal research project for someone research-minded!"

Silk and other TV Dramas

I have to admit that Silk has been one of my favourite TV Dramas of the last few years. It manages to combine a bit of realism – especially the portrayal of the Barristers’ clerks and the power that they can exert – with the pure fantasy of a young pupil stealing his first wig! There are also great performances from Maxine Peak as Martha Costelllo QC and Rupert Penry Jones as Clive. The new series begins on BBC 1 tonight. I have it on series record already. There is something compelling about…See More

Virtual Lawyer Anyone?

I can still remember my first mobile phone. It resembled a house brick and was certainly as heavy. The battery lasted about 45 minutes. I remember taking it on a camping holiday and within an hour I was looking for a call box.I can also remember when I first had a PC on my desk. I stared at it in awe and wondered what happened next! I was certainly not the worst. I remember a cry of panic when someone said that their computer had just told them that they had performed an illegal operation. And…See More
