One of the more common disease claims amongst construction workers and ex-miners is a condition commonly referred to as Vibration White Finger compensation claims, claims by Tylers Solicitors. In this day and age it is now known as hand-arm vibration syndrome due to sciences also linking vibrating machinery and joint pains in the elbows, wrists and shoulders.
Vibration white finger is caused when the construction worker or miner has used vibrating machinery over a long period of time in which causes the blood vessels to get damaged. This can cause the blood vessels to shut stopping blood circulation within effected areas of the hands & fingers. This can cause an uncomfortable feeling in which the fingers will go cold or numb until the blood vessels open up again, releasing blood circulation back into the hands. When this happens the sufferer will commonly feel a tingling sensation and more often than not, a hot flushing sensation within the effected areas of the hands.
We know that you have to use machinery as it is a part of your job, but what can you do to try to prevent it?
Well, you can start by wearing gloves. Machinery is usually stored in a cold place so when you start to use them in a morning (or night) then the coldness can cause your hands to numb anyway, but you tend not to feel the vibrating as much. Always try to keep a loose grip on the machinery as you are using it and take regular breaks. Wearing some protective gloves will not only filter down the vibrating but they will also keep your hands warm. Also try to avoid picking up anything else that is cold, such as ice/snow & ice cold drinks as this can cause further discomfort.
It is estimated that sufferers can claims between £3000 and £25,000 for the damage cause by machinery, either it be vibration white finger or hand-arm vibration syndrome. The amount you can claim is due to the amount of damage sustained over the years by using hand machinery.
